General Grant and Mr. Stauton have urged Pi e3ident Johnson to compromise with the Radicals. President Johnson has been hissed and hooted during his tour. Frightful floods have occurred in France. A feaiful famine continues in India. The peace negotiations have been successfully carried out. There are no aigns of further war on the Continent. The new Atlantic cable is still in working order, and the old one is also in use. The commercial news is favourable. Bank rate of discount, four and a half per cent. Consols are eighty-nine. Wool three half-pence higher than last quotations. The Prussian troops have re-entered Berlin in triumphal order, and with grand ceremony. The prospects of the American cotton crop are bad, and prices are advancing in Liverpool and Manchester. At a public meeting at Clerkenwell, at which Mr. Osborne presided, resolutions were passed, declanng that ex-Governor Eyre had been guilty of great cruelty. Mr. Bright has accepted an invitation to a Reform banquet in Dublin. Meetings in favour of Reform continue to be held throughout the kingdom. The G. Y. Brooke lifeboat has been launched, and some eloquent speeches were delivered on the occasion. The London North- Western Railway Goods Station has been burnt. The 1033 is estimated ab £90,000.
